stalling in reverse 700 1986

It idles ok in forward gear?

Since it isnt binding, that tends to rule out bad problems internal of the transmission.

I would go back and look at my idle system. The only thing I can think of at the moment is since reverse uses something like 2 times the pressure that it might put a bit of extra load on the engine. However even that doesnt sound good because the torque convertor is slipping at that stage so it should even out.

Will it stall when you are not moving with the brake applied? Or are you trying to back up?
