My foglights are blowing fuses-help!!! 700 1986

I just bought a set of Bosch (OEM) fog lights for my '86 744. I got them from a guy on EBay. One was perfect, and the other was fine except that its connectors had been cut off and I had to replace them.

So, when I connected the lights and switched them on, they lit up great but after a few seconds a fuse went "pop!" and the lights went out. The green light on the switch on the dash also went out. I replaced the fuse thinking maybe it was just a bad fuse, but it also blew.

So, not being a very accomplished auto electrician, I am wondering what to do. Here are the important facts:

1. I replaced the bullet connectors, both male and female, on one of the lamps and wiring harness.

2. I also replaced the ground connector with a female disconnect terminal, and extended the wire with 16 gauge wire and a butt connector so I could get it to reach the ground spades on the inside of the fender.

3. I extended the ground wire on the other lamp so it could reach the bank of spade ground connectors on the inside of the other fender, using 16 guage wire and a butt connector, as well as a female disconnect terminal.

4. All terminals were from an electrical kit I got at Home Depot, and the connections were all made by crimping the connectors to the wires.

What do I do now to check to see where the problem is? It obviously is not the fuse, so how to I test it out to find out where I need to make a repair? Should I be soldering something instead of crimping?

Thanks a LOT for your help. I am into new territory here, so I will need a lot of assistance.

Darius
