Stranded 240 200 1988

HELP!

1988 240 ... Started it up, drove 100 feet and it died. I coasted it downhill and off to a side-street where it now sits. Would like to avoid mr. money-hungry tow-dude.

Here's the scoop:

The car started up again, right away, however I accelerate and it immediately dies. Start again, idle for a minute or two, step on the gas, and it putters out. A little quick process of elimination and I came up with thinking that the main fuel pump is the problem. Here's what I've checked:

Fuses - good
Relay - good (yes, I can hear the main pump)
Dist. cap & rotor - clean
Fuel - yes, lot's of it.
All other electrical - appears AOK

I checked my Bentley book and it seems to suggest testing the main fuel pump completely ... all sorts of electrical, fuel volume, and misc tests. I tried the 'ole tap the fuel pump with the flashlight trick - no help. Bummer.

Other thoughts would be throttle positioning switch, air-mass flow meter (or whatever you call it). Though I don't know if they failed if this is the symptom I should expect.

Anyone with any ideas?
