240 oil pressure sender flaky 200

I installed an oil pressure gauge from a junker in my '87 240. The sender seems to have a dead spot below 3 bar - the gauge reading is stable at 3 bar and above, but once the engine heats up the idle pressure reading gets flaky: it pegs above 5 bar and/or jumps around. I checked the sender using compressed air and an ohmeter, it looks like there is a dead spot (infinite ohms) in the middle range.

Is there a way to fix the sender or is it shot?

Thx,

Terry
