R134a Recharge Not Working - Help! 200

I am attempting to recharge my AC. 1993 240 with a R134a system. I connected the can of coolant and proceeded to pierce with the valve etc. All connections seem to be in line. I started the engine, and turned the AC to high as instructed. Released the valve on my can of coolant and nothing happened. The can never emptied. How do I recharge this system?
