Torque rod info wanted 200

I've read (in the article "VOLVO 240 SPORTS HANDLING" by Anthony Hyde) that the later 240 torque rods have beefier bushings and are desirable for better handling. But the author was not sure when the later rods were first used. When did the change take place? Is it worth it to switch to these rods for a street/highway car? How difficult are they to remove from the donor car (that is, can I just take them off without dis-assembling any other parts of the rear supension?
Any and all info on the subject is apreciated.
Thanks
