Defunct NEW CD deck??? 200 1993

Finally decided to put in a pair of nice Kenwood CD players into my wife's 89 740 and my 93 245. Wife's went in without a hitch, plays great, etc. Mine (using the same soldering, connections, etc)played great, then started to cut in and out.
I thought since I had wired the speaker wires to the output from the OEM amplifier, the amplifier was interfering with the Kenwood's signals to the speakers. Yesterday, I unplugged the OEM amplifier so it cannot be sending signals thorough the wires. Still no sound. Radio lights up,clock functions, tuner tunes,etc...just no sound. At first, there is a short static sound, then NADA!!!
How can I test to see if current is flowing out the speaker wires? Regular test lignt?
I'm beginning to think I was sold a lemon...sigh!! Ebay sticks it to me again.
What say you, O AudioGurus??
thanks for your help in advance,
el Raidman.
