When does it start smelling? As soon as you start it or after it warms up? You could have a bad gasket somewhere that expands as it gets warmer, then stops stinking, or maybe a transmission fluid problem?

If you don't seem to have leaks in the exhaust, it's *probably* not the exhaust system... Your best bet might be to take it to an exhaust specialty shop to be sure, however I think the method they use to 'test' for leaks problaby introduces more problems than normal road conditions. :\
