my 240 (year '82) will start, but quits running! 200 1982

If the starting problem only occurs when the car is cold, I would also check the auxillary air slide. Thats the valve with the two hoses coming off it near your inlet manifold. It has a bi-metallic strip that should be open when the engine is cold, pull off the top hose and look down into the valve, if the hole is closed over then the valve is not working and makes it very hard to run when cold. You can loosen it off with a screwdriver and adjust it. It also pays to sqirt a bit of carby clean down there from time to time to keep things from getting gunged up.
