refuses to start 140-160 1972

To say it "won't turn over" is somewhat vague. Is it an automatic with a bad or misadjusted neutral safety switch?

Is the ignition switch bad?

Is the battery dead? What's the battery voltage? With the headlights on? While cranking?

Is the battery well grounded, does the positive lead go to the starter OK?

Are the terminals clean and the clamps tight?

Do the headlights come on?

Are the (smaller) wires connected to the starter?

When you try to start it, what happens? Any sounds? Click, click? Clunk, clunk? Grind, grind?
