Will replace pre-pump on '85 744 T..any advise/tips appreciated. 700 1985

This is a
project car for me and a friend. '85 744T.Main pump humming real
LOUD (PO just replaced main pump and filter just before we bought the car.)
I've already replaced wiring harness, replace most ignition parts i.e. distributor, rotors etc..and cleaned/service pcv system (old trap was almost full of crud) and replaced the FPR.Read the 7/9 FAQ and concluded the in tank pump is not working after doing all the test recommended.I've order just the
pre-pump ($35.00), however a fuel sending unit is $135.00 something.I assume the later is the whole assembly?? Plug and play sort of?? and the former is take off the system clean and check and reuse everything except the pre-pump itself??Thanks in advance for any tips you can give me in the R/R..
