Rear Cam Plug proper removal and install 200 1990

I noticed a leak on my dads 240 from what looks to be the rear cam plug. I have performed this replacement on my car (it's a solid round plug)and just want to make sure that this is the way to replace it.

1) remove valve cover and gasket.
2)place a screwdriver from the inside and tap the plug out with a hammer (tapping the screwdriver till it the plug pops out).

Is this the proper way to do this (without damaging anything)or do you guys have a different method.
Also whats the best way to reinstall the plug so it seats right.

Many thanks
