refuses to start 140-160 1972

Thanks for replying.

The battery seems fine. Just to be sure, though, I've tried jump starting it with other cars to get some really good kick. Still didn't start.

It's an automatic, twin carby.

Fuel pump works perfectly.

Starter moter works perfectly.

Spark plugs fire at the right times.

Carburettors seem to be in working order but don't seem to actually do anything.

Engine pulls a vacuum.

Ignition switch is fine.

When I start it, the engine's starter motor kicks in and it sounds as though it wants to turn over but just wont. The most I've had is a backfire.

When it was working, it would fire on the first stroke and run fine.

Any help would be fantastic.
