K&N Setup/ Caps for Pre-heat Hose Inlets?? 700

Hey, fellow Bricksters!
I've been interested in a K&N for my 1990 740GLE 16v w/the stock airbox (and its totally weird inlet horn that faces the engine and not the front of the car).
I'm debating whether or not to just use the airbox version or cut the durned thing off and use a cone. My friend that has one on his 2001 Nissan Frontier
swears by the cone after dumping his airbox. His advice was to post this message to see if any of you have attempted this conversion.

What say you, amigos?

Mark McKenna

P.S. There's a cap for the engine pre-heat hose inlets?!? Took my hose off, don't need it in Hawaii...but nobody said to cap the inlets!!!! I'm worried that water might get sucked into the engine when it rains. Please Advise!
