this is don reid. we met tonight.
in reviewing the information i must say that i don't know what an ambiant temp. sensor is for this year modle.
are you refering to the air door in the air filter housing that lets hot air into the engine when it fails?
this thermostat will cause the air mass meter to fail and can cause a lean condition.
the ambiant temp. sensor is a intrigal part of the air mass meter and cannot be changed independent of the complete assembly.
If you pull the air filter and look inside the housing you will see a disk flapper valve that is supposed to close the warm air draft in above freezing temps. If it is wide open to hot air it will take out the air mass meter and can cause lean run conditions (even if the air mass meter is good the hot air causes a lean condition) and it can also cause a severe running condition effecting the life of the engine oil and cam belt. hot air ducted to the engine is only needed to keep fuel from freezing in sub zero temp.
In my experience i have related air mass meter failures to the air door thermostat failure because the air mass meter cannot handle the heat for long peroids of time in this climate.
check your o2 sensor with hot engine. disconnect sensor and connect to dc volt meter.
check for a reading of about .95 volts with a rich mixture(spray an alternate fuel into the intake manifold through a vacuum hose untill the engine idles rough. Then cause a lean condition by creating a lean condition by causing a vacuum leak. The reading should go to - voltage or at least 0 volts. if it does there is one more check. This deals with the responce time from lean to rich. If it takes more than 3/4 seconds to swing from rich to lean it is loaded up or worn out.
