Bad Alternator? 700 1987

Have been borrowing a 1987 760GL Turbo wagon as I save my money for another car. Last week the car didn't want to start, but after some attempts in the morning it ran fine for the rest of the day. However, that evening I had to be jump started. The battery in the car is a new Interstate which was only put in 3 months ago. The interior lights work fine as well as the dash lights, but the car won't turn over - makes the usual sounds except for starting. Possibly a bad alternator? Please let me know.
