'Cards in bicycle spoke' noise 700 1988

After the chunk of work i had done early today that allows me to hear my engine now rather than a loud hum, i can now here a new noise.
Its a ticking noise that sounds just like someone with a deck of cards in a bicycle wheel. Its at all speeds and increses in rate as the speek goes up.
Anyone know what this might be? Its coming from the engine. Is this the sounds of a bad valve lash?
