1984 245 Water pump 200 1984

LAst October my water pump was leakying so I replaced it with a jobber unit. Made it through the harsh Alberta winter but is now leaking again. I plan on replacing it next week end and I would like some advice on whether I should pop for OEM or just a different brand of jobber part. Also since the leak I am having stange temp guage issues...as the beast warms up it hits just below the hot zone on the guage and then settles to dead normal no matter how hard I drive it. My thoughts are the t-stat is also hooped. What are yours?
