240 wagon defrost 200 1986

Usually I'm pretty good with 240 electronics.I can't get the rear defrost to come on.I've checked the fuse,relay,switch,and wiring including ground.I rerouted the wiring from the hinge and I still can't get it to work.None of the grids are broken.
What else is there except the yellow(+) and black(-) wire? The license plate light and 3rd brake light work fine.
The other day it came on for a second when my son opened the tailgate(engine running,lights on),when he did that the bulb failure light flickered.
