This car has 100+K miles with usual service. Just recently, we noticed a stalling tendency when the fuel tank is near the end. A mechanic though that there was some missing sparks. So we decided to change the spark plug. At the same time this mechanic thought that he might be able to adjust the distributer cap for proper timing. He loosened it but only to find that this couldn't be done. He tightened the screws back and left the way as it was. Then we started the car and there was no proble with the new plugs, he still thought that there was some misfiring or missing sparks. He ideled it high and low for next 15 minutes or so and turned the engin off. But when we went restart it it was sluggish (battery is new, had not given any problems ever, and of higher rating than the OEM) meaning that it took atleast 3-5 seconds more of craking but it started. Idled a while stopped it tried to restart again, felt that time delay has increased. It wouould start fine from cold but may be a little longer cranking.
Today it just would not restart at all after running for nearly 20 minutes. If I put put some gas while starting it will try to turn but will die within 30 seconds.
The only other thing that i did was to check the onboard diagnostics. At pin at position 6, it did not give me valid code it flashed continuously. At pin position 2 it gave a 2-3-2 code which refers to O2 sensor.
The fuel pump has not been changed at all, my mechanic thinks it could be the fuel pump or filter. The car has been runnng on 97 Octane for the last 7 years since we moved to Dublin Ireland from the US!
Any help as to the possible fault would be apreciated greatly, and thank you in advance.
James
