Over $1k? Probably.
I paid about $200 for the motor+tranny mount replacement. I now have an interesting noise, which I can only imagine is the center support bearing. If you do the mounts, do the center support bearing (IPD calls it a driveline mount IIRC).
I've been meaning to do the timing belt, tensioner and seals. I've got all the parts (about $60). I just need to track down a decent torque wrench, and find the time to do this. Even on the intercooled turbo (where there's just less room), it doesn't look too scary. I'd expect to pay maybe $200-$400 w/ the water pump depending on the cost of labor.
Did the water pump ($37 + S&H). If I had to do it again, I suppose it would be pretty easy. To my amazement I didn't slice up any of the gaskets. The fan clutch was a bitch to deal with. Studs just work better IMO than bolts to keep everything together. Go ahead, ask me how I learned this. If nothing else, you should do this yourself. Just keep in mind, it's worth taking the fan clutch + pulley off at nearly any cost. Regardless test the fan clutch (easy to replace while you or someone else is in here), and insist on a Hepu water pump (it looks much sturdier than the GMB pump I replaced).
No idea on the suspension work, figure you could probably do the shocks quite easily. Depending on what you replace the struts/shocks with you could end up paying $300 in parts alone.
The rear hatch wiring is also something you could probably do yourself quickly (and reroute it so you don't have to worry about it). Figure maybe one hour(?) for a shop to do this.
All the above could be done by any local indy Volvo house.
The windshield should probably be done by a glass specialist. Putting one in doesn't seem like brain surgery from my end of the computer, but you'll likely get a better price on the glass, and/or better glass (say Volvo OEM stuff). Besides, a glass shop might be a bit more helpful with the whole remove glass, remove rust, then install glass. Find a shop willing to put a 91+ windshield in (I think they're cheaper, but if nothing else they look much nicer).
Oh yeah, don't forget to do the drive belts too. The alternator/water pump belts are easily done yourself (Go Volvo brand here). On B21/B23 engines the A/C belt in front of it is a pain (any suggestions for me??) -- oh I miss power steering.
