Idiot light glowing... 200 1993

Hello All:
As I was driving at 75 mph (this is Texas,y'all) last night, I noticed the idiot light for AMP glowing red (just a little though, not lit up). I had on the lights and A/C. It would stop glowing if I turned off the lights (briefly, no death wish here)
does this mean the brushes are gone from my alternator? Or that I need a new or rebuilt alternator with higher amp capacity?
what say you, O Volvo gurus?
