headlight gremlins... 200 1993

Hello All:
Was driving along at 75 mph (this is Texas after all,,being passed regularly)at night. With A/C on, headlights etc, the idiot light for AMP was glowing slightly. If I turned off the headlights momentarily, the light would stop glowing. what does this mean, O Volvo Gurus?
Is my alternator too small in output for my 93 245? are the brushes toast? (I
have 130K miles on the car).
The next night, I start the car up... ALL lights except the headlights turn on...later at home after twirling all the fuses in the array, the headlights mysteriously came on...did I do anything to solve the problem? which fuse controls only the headlights? could the switch/timer for turning off the headlamps when the switch is left on,but the ignition switch is turned off be fried?
Where to go to read/learn about these circuits?
Thanks for your help.
el Raidman.
