Running Rich 200 1985

Hi There Folks
It was suggested that among other things that I disconnect the air mass meter plug to see if it had any effect. I did and it ran quite smooth. So smooth that I decided to go for a short spin to see if it changed things. It stalled and did this several times. I tried adjusting the screw on the top of the box--figuring that this would open the gate for air but was afraid of going too far as I'm playing in the dark. Is this normal that it will stall when I try to give it gas with the plug off. Does this mean that the AMM is shot or that it needs adjusting or could it be another part that needs adjusting. When I pluged it back on it started its irregular firing or missing while in parked position. Any suggestions out there?
