Have i got too much power in my engine? 700 1988

I've got a 1988 model NON TURBO volvo 740, i don't know if it's just my car or what, but it seems to go exceptionally quick for it's "supposed" power output... I decided at a car audio meet the other night, i'd see how quick it does go, went to about 3500rpms, let the clutch out and did a huge burnout without trying, i've got very good tyres on the car, they stick well, yet, i did a better burnout than a 3.8l v6 car... which i really don't understand! I didn't try hard or anything, it just seemed to have alot of power on tap...
I wanna know because everyone says these arer eally gutless, it's an m47 manual with 213,000ks on the orig engine as far as i know......... should i be able to do big burnouts?! Or is something funny?
Thanks,
Az
