Rebuilding a starter? 140-160 1973

The bushings (bearings) at each end should be checked or replaced, the solenoid checked or replaced, and the starter drive should be replaced without question. The communtator can be left alone if it is shiny and smooth. If there is a good automotive electrical rebuilder in your area, it might be best to have them overhaul it. It is usually cheaper and better than getting an exchange starter, as they can be of varied quality.
