240 wiper noise--weird

My '89 240 wagon --the drivers side wiper--(both are new)-makes a sort of mild "click-clack" noise as it reaches the bottom of the stroke to change direction to wipe back up across the windshield. I know it is only the drivers side wiper because I raised each wiper separately off the windshield as it was moving to try to determine where exactly the noise was coming from. It appears to come from somewhere UNDER where the whatever the "arms" are that connect the 2 wipers, as if something moving or 'rotating" there has worn out or come loose. The motor itself is quiet. The wipers work fine but that "click-clack" is really annoying! I have no idea how to access the area where the mechanism is that control the wipers. It does not appear to be the action of the rubber part of the wiper, but from somewhere under them in the area where the mechanism is located. Suggestions please. Thanks.
