Severe brake light problems.... any advice? 200

i don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but my 86 240DL wagon has something wrong with the brake light circuit.

With my headlights off, whenever i push down my brakes everything is fine. all three brake lights come on, but my bulb failure warning light comes on. now, when i turn my headlights on and push down my brakes, both the bottom lights go out and only my 3rd brake light works. I still get the bulb failure warning. then, whenever i let off my brake pedal, my two bottom lights continue to stay off, but my 3rd one stays on and glows very dim. I'm wondering if i have a bad ground or something? I don't know. I did replace the bulbs, which didn't help. If anyone can help, please do. I don't want to get pulled over!

Also, on another subject..... My parking lights. Sometimes when i shut them off, it takes them a second to shut off. I don't figure this is normal, since it only does it every now and then. if anyone knows about this, let me know about it too.

thanks!
Andrew Gyger
