'68 145 good buy/bad buy ? 140-160

I have come across a 1968 145 for sale at $1000obo. It has 140,000 miles, 4 speed, a/c works and some carb trouble. The owner says it has a weber carb which is causing some trouble. He claims no rust or accidents. What are some things I should look for when I go see this car ? Are these typical volvos ?? (dependable, safe.. etc..) Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know almost nothing about carbs. Thanks
