ECC update with note (?) for 700/900 FAQ 700

Last Saturday I spent the day with my independent Volvo mechanic going over the ECC programmer on my '86 760T. A/C stops blowing air through vents under prolonged acceleration going uphill in the mountains when the dashboard gauge reads pressure rather than vacuum. Like he told me he had done, we checked for vacuum loss at tank, hoses, check valve, vacuum motors, etc. Everything held vacuum but the transducer (with the little gas filter acting as an air filter) on the ECC programmer. John Randstrom is sendimg me an ECC programmer. If it bench tests OK, I will put it in the car. Otherwise, if its transducer tests OK, I will solder it on the ECC programmer in the car now. Otherwise, I will put a check valve on the air filter end of the transducer on the programmer in the car now. If anyone has any thoughts on the above and particularly transducer operation, I will appreciate hearing about it.

BTW, I think I found how to repair a Volvo patch up. Although I do not remember the particulars, I seem to recall reading instructions from Volvo to dealers (reproduced in ALLDATA CD) regarding disconnecting the inner temperature sensor behind the dashboard and replacing with a direct jumper when the customer complains about climate control erratically blowing hot and cold. Looking at the ECC programmer board, I found three broken soldered connections that would make the climate control erratically blow hot and cold after hitting a bump, braking and so on. Resolder every connection on that board. Please, consider for 700/900 FAQ Mr. Ringlee and take a bow Mr. Foster. While at it, one should check and replace as needed ECC programmer vacuum hoses, check valve and transducer.

Hopefully, I will have more to report in a week or so. Best regards to all and thank you very much to John Randstrom, Warren Bain, Wagga, Steve Ringlee and others who helped.
