steering rack swap anyone?? 700

Ive got an 85' 765 with a cam gear rack...besides the first one I had literaly falling apart internally, the second one i have in now, is showing first sighns of the same problem....I have driven 740's with the ZF rack (also BMW's) and i like the ZF rack more. Can these be swaped, I have heard it's not a bolt on deal..and if they can be, has anyone done it? any info would be appreciated.
