Using FP relay as a relay

those power relays are pretty standard. If it has 5 spade lugs, it is SPDT. That means Single pole, double throw, and with no power to the coil, there is a contact closed and one open. When the coil is energized, the normally closed contacts open and the other ones (normally open) are closed.

It is the normally open contacts that you want. I am assuming that the FP relay you want to use is not the dual coil type used 1985 and on.It would take different wiring.

Old type:

The coil is between contacts #85 and #86. The armature is #30. The normally closed contact is #87a, and the normally open contact is #87. You can see the numbers looking at the bottom of the relay. Some of the relays, like for power windows and central locks, have a schematic diagram on the case.



You can get a relay base at Electronic Parts Outlet, maybe Radio Shack, or use a bunch of insulated female .250 spade terminals.

If you are getting relays at a junkyard, get the ones mounted on a rail directly under the center A/C vent.
