Just a thought: If the water pump hasn't been replaced in a while, check it out.
Grasp the fan and see how much you can rock it with easy pressure. If the water pump bearing is loose and about to fail, this play will show up.
A failure of this part could damage fan and radiator, and happen quickly at high rpm on the highway.
Also, a car that doesn't use any oil around town can deceive you on prolonged high speed running. Check after, say, the first hour on the highway if you're in any doubt.
