oil consumption on B234F 900 1992

I have a 1992 940 GLE with the B234F engine.
The car is in perfect shape with approx 60K miles on it.
One problem - it has been drinking oil for the past three years. By drinking I mean I need to add 1 liter of oil (I use Castrol GTX 10W30) for every 600 miles.
The car runs great, no problems starting, no blue smoke, no odours, I always due the regular tune-ups...
I know there are absolutely no leaks becasue I park in my garage and there has never been one drop of oil.
It is usually city driven. I once took it on a 600 mile highway trip. After arriving at our destination I chacked the oil expecting to add 1 liter and to my surprise it had not consumed anything.

What is wrong with this engine anyway? One mechanic once mentioned maybe the valve seals are burning it away.

Any ideas anyone?
