Overdrive relay a Solution? 700

My OD relay seems to be acting up and I have read all about it and what to check. What I wanted to share was what I did and ask if there is a downside to what I did. I took the relay out, took the case off and smelled it and it is not overly burnt smelling but maybe just a little. While I had it apart I saw how the solenoid pulls the flap over and makes contact. I figure that the solenoid is powered when the switch on the side of the shifter lever is pushed, and it then pulls the flap over and makes contact. Well what I did was take a bit of paper and push the flap over permanently because it seems that overrides the relay and completes the circut allowing the trans to go into OD. It seems to be working, but I only drove it a little bit at lunch and need to test it some more. I felt the relay, it doesn't seem to be getting hot, and I assume that would be the main downside to my "repair", other than not being able to seperatly control the OD.

What do you think?
