No OD Autotrans. 1985 245 200

Bricksters, Second try with this question.
First off....no I have not bought the Bently manual.
Second ....I was ASE certified in everything except Transmissions up until about five years ago (Electronic Engine Control specialist for FoMoCo) so I do know the difference s@#& and Shinola.
This problem started last week.
My 1985 245 (155k) started to not go into overdrive.
It does seem to WANT to go and maybe it does at times (no tach) but as soon as I tip into the throttle, it downshifts into third.
Is this in the valve body?
The throttle valve cable?
Time for a service?
When I bought the car the Overdrive light was coming on and going off intermittenly by itself but the trans. would always stay in OD. I replaced the relay and then the light would turn on and off with the switch but the trans still was always in OD.
Please Help
