Good question. I have a 1992 745 as well w/ the On Guard Security badge. I was once told that this security relates to serial numbers on the car. If from some reason the car was stolen the parts could be identified by the police through the serial numbers imprinted on the parts. Not sure if that is all true. I did find some of these numbers on the rear passenger window.
