hollow wooshing sound on acceleration first few minutes of driving 200 1986

Hey, this may just be curiosity- I hear a wooshing shound when i accelerate first thing in the morning. It happens when i depress the gas pedal and am in gear.. A slight tap will start the wooshing. It sounds like a hollow metal chamber of some sort being filled with some sort of substance. . It seems to have no bearing on performance. the sound comes from below the floorboards or possibly nearer the engine or tranny.
I no longer hear the sound after a few minutes of operation.
In my mind i see a cone shaped galvinized chamber with some sort of diaphragm in it.

My mind is running wild with speculation. any ideas?
