240 blown alternator 200

hello, I've just blown the alternator on my '90 240 wagon. It was overloaded by the 130w amp I just put in (and left on for a few hours too for extra stupid points). Am I contending with a blown voltage regulator or the whole alt? I see a lot of talk about overloading alternators by over-accessorizing, but has anyone actually done this? _After_ I get the alternator functioning again, I think I'll add a capacitor to the amplifier circuit. Opinions? Thanks!
