Could be. I did not get that out of here description, but you might be right. I had a shot balancer and the friction between halves when slipping caused the pulley to heat up and apparently aggravated the bolt loosening with drastic heating and cooling cycles. I caught the whole thing by hand when I felt how hot and how loose the pulley was.
