240 timing 200

hey
i'm new to volvo's.
how do you get the timing of a 240 (86 with a m46 tranny) dead on or even close
i'm told that when you take the distributor cap off, the little thing should be pointing at the first sparkplug wire.

mine is between the first and the second}
