??Loosening crankshaft pulley for belt removal?? 200 1988

I was just wondering what the best way to remove the bottom(crankshaft, i beleive) pulley on an 88 240 Dl sedan. I loosened the ac already without realizing that it might be easier to loosten the bottom pulley first, due to the whole tension thing. UNfortunately i rounded off the ac nut a little and need to find a replacement, otherwise i would put that back on and just use the tension in the belts to hold the pulley. But since that is not the case i was wondering what trick or method exsists for holding the belts and or the actually pulley in place while i loosten the nut on it. ANy and all comments would be appreciated.
thank
Gary and Caylen Payne.
