wires to nowhere in my air filter...? 700

1985 745t

For a long time I've wondered what the deal is with two wires that go into the air box on my brick. As far as I have been able to tell, they have never hooked up to anything... they just go under the lip of the cover and sit in the air box.

Anyone know what, if anything, they are supposed to be hooked up to? Is this one of those items included but unused in my 1985 745t?

One of the wires is red/white and the other is green/white. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
rt
