Need Opinions-Effects of Long Engine Idle Time 200

I leave my 240 engine idlng (and doors locked) for periods up to 20 minutes. This would be at gas stations, grocery stores, washing the car etc. etc.. The reasoning being that if the engine is turned off then later on; there is that short period of time of no or little lubrication during startup. Thus wear and tear on the engine; not to mention the starter. What are everybody's opinions on this. I'd like especially to hear from the seasoned guys - George Downs , Don Foster , RHaire , BC , ...... TIA
