Painting Air Dam on 740 700 1988

Hello All

I have a 88 740 grey with 308,000 miles. Of course, my air damn under the front bumper looks like crap. Has anyone tried painting this part? If so what kind of paint was used. I'm not sure If I would paint it black or the orginal grey.
