Need Opinions-Effects of Long Engine Idle Time 200

I'd shut off the engine for any anticipated idle over a minute or two. The B21/23/230 design has acres of bearing surface (that's a lot), so you won't wear the bearings. If you use a Volvo or Mann or really good oil filter, the oil will stay in the galleries for days or weeks. It'll have pressure before the engine spins more than a few times.

Years back, wife locked the keys in her '83 GL and went in to work. Eight hours later, the car was still idling when she reappeared in the parking garage. It took her 10 seconds with a coat hanger to unlock the door (methinks she's practiced at this...).

I had to de-carbon the engine (75 mph in second does wonders, "Italian tune-up") and then dump the oil.

And refill the gas tank.

Somehow it was my fault....

...but the battery was WELL charged.
