aluminum parts 700

recently I read and responded to a post about a 940 owner who noted that the 700s cowling appears to age better than the 900s. This got me to thinking why this might be, and lead me to assume that maybe the 700's cowling is aluminum.

I then started thinking about teh fact that my cowling, sunroof, and tailgate ALL show very different wear than the rest of the panels on my car. Those three parts appear much more faded than othe panels, but despite the wear and scrapes on each not one of them is rusting. I subsequently assumed that these three parts comprise the aluminum body components of my 1985 745t.

Can anyone confirm this? Just a musing I thought the board might have more info on. Also, does aluminum not hold paint/finish as well as steel for some reason? Those three pieces appear MUCH more faded than the rest of the car.

thanks,
-rt
