Wierd Light problem 700 1988

I have a vexing little problem with some lights in my 740 GLE's dashboard. The display in the factory stereo keeps going out. It's completely unpredictable, having nothing to do with warming up or cooling down or if the headlights or running lights are on. Sometimes the display works fine, sometimes plucking it with a finger brings it back, sometimes it doesn't work at all. I don't think it's a fuse cause it happens without any appearant ryme or reason. At first the lights on the climate control system didn't work either, now they do, but the stereo still won't display. The only other problem up there is a engine coolent teperture gage that is very dim. I'm not even sure if these problems are related. Does anybody have any suggestion on what to check?
