intermittent idle/run problem 1990 16v 740 700

My newly rebuilt 1990 740 16v has it's first drivability problem.

After running for a while, the engine died very suddenly while pulling out of drive. Restarted immediately.

Drove a few minutes happened again. And again, and again. All stalls were very quick, like switch cut off. Dash lights come on at stall. All happened at low rpm, (under 1500). I suspect Crank sensor. Engine was warm.

Finally, I was having trouble getting it started at all. I waited until traffic died down (rush hour, of course) and it did restart, problem showed up after 5 or so minutes.

Let car sit for 3 hours, it restarted and drove for 20 miles without problem.

I noticed that rpm didn't seem to register when it wouldn't start. And when rpms showed on tach it would start.
Prior to this, at warm idle, I would sometimes get a hiccup (or down) at idle.

Besides replacing crank sensor, is there any other areas to check?

Thanks,

jc
