Switch from a 240 to a 740 ? 200

I have owned and loved two 240's, a 1988 240 DL and I currently have a 1985 245 GL with 200K. I am currently stationed in Spain with the Navy and am thinking about selling the 1985 and purchasing a 1991 european spec 740. This 740 that I am thinking about purchasing has 45K on the engine and 57K on the reminder of the car. Is seems that the original motor failed while under warranty and was rebuilt by Volvo. I have a few questions. The engine and drive train in this 740 wagon looks very much like the engine and drive train from a 240 wagon. How much are they related? It looks like a 740 is really a 240 in disguise.
Will the third seat from the back of my 1985 240 wagon fit in the back of a 1991 740 wagon?
Are 740's more or less reliable that 240's? Any thoughts Thanks Dale
